“The world premiere of three songs by Zachary Miezio, revealed this young composer’s tender, limpid language and his inclination to foreground the singers and melodic lines.”

About:

Message from Me:

The prognostic ebony background, the shocked expression of the money man. This is what you will find in Caravaggio’s 1599 painting ‘The Calling of St Matthew’. I’ve always been captivated by audacious art, poems, and films. The stories they tell, the history, the culture. Such emotive qualities are evident in Caravaggio’s work and that was what inspired me to write my first piano sonata in 2020.

I’ve always had an interest in weaving strong narratives into my music, some would speculate that is why I have leant into film scoring so much, with the narrative so evident on the screen. However, when I am not writing for picture, I love finding inspiration in stories, poems, and art and embedding that into the musical tapestry of whatever ensemble or style I am writing. My intense love for music permeates every aspect of my career, whether it's in the projects I take on, my compositions, or my work as a conductor. I see music as a means to convey stories, and as a composer, conductor, and storyteller, it's my responsibility to infuse my work with this emotional depth.
